The 60-second pitch

Lu Lou's Lakeside Grill & Chill is a family-run counter grill on the only strip of sand in Canada where Wood Lake almost kisses Kalamalka.

The menu is short on purpose: sloppy joes on toasted, garlic-buttered brioche; eight kinds of premium all-beef hot dogs; smash burgers, Neapolitan-style pizza, and weekend breakfast sandwiches; hand-cut fries and onion rings; full soft-serve counter. Prices start at $5. Open daily through lake season.

Customers walk, bike the Okanagan Rail Trail, or boat right up onto the sand. There are no reservations, it's a window, a patio, and a beach. It's the food version of why people move here.
